No, No, No!  The government does not own the gas stations!

However, the government does own the OIL (gas) and sells it to the franchised gas stations.  50% of the money from oil goes to fund the Government.

The gas stations hire people for "a pump."  Each employee has their own pump!

I've never given a tip to a pump person.  Never even thought about it until just recently a guy asked me if we should tip them.

When I drive into a gas station I get out of my car, ask what the exchange rate is, check the pump to make sure the registers are clear and ask them to fill it up.

I always have my hand calculator and have shown them the correct amount several times.

Once, the girl was having such a hard time I ended up leaving my calculator with her.

I figure the penalty for using dollars instead of pesos is about 1 - 1 1/2% not counting the time to go into the bank or return the excess pesos.  I use dollars.

NAUCALPAN.- The nation´s consumer protection agency, known as Profeco, on Sunday shut down 315 gas stations in the State of Mexico for dispensing less fuel than customers paid for.
In the past two months, Profeco has investigated 1,844 gas stations within the state as part of its undercover client program.
Under the guise of motorists, the agency is measuring the amount of gas being paid for against the amount being dispensed. Profeco says the undercover operation is much more effective than formal inspections as it does not allow operators to know that they are being monitored.
The biggest offenders in the State of Mexico were the municipalities of Huixquilucan with 38 closures; Tezoyuca with 36 closures; Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla with 24 closures each; Ixtlahuaca with 22, Aculco with 14; Tecámac and Chalco with 11 respectively, and Cuautitlán with 10 closures.
